Research Trend Analysis on Mental Health Literacy in Korea : Focus on KCI journals(2010-2020)
Kim Hee-Chul

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to propose directions for future research on mental health literacy through a review of previous studies. 17 studies about mental health literacy included in KCI published between 2010 and 2020 were selected and analyzed. Descriptive analysis results showed there had been a growth in the number of studies addressing mental health literacy since 2016 and most of literatures used cross-sectional survey design and mental health literacy as a dependent variable. Thematic analysis results indicated studies have used various scales to measure mental health literacy with different definitions of it. Korean academic fields need to develop a culturally sensitive definition of mental health literacy and a measurement through inter-disciplinary consensus. Also, all of the quantitative research¡¯s unit of analysis was individual-level. It is recommended that future research focuses more on community-level or national policy-level variables as unit of analysis because the concept of mental health literacy comprises ability to utilize information in the community. Based on the results, implications for practice, research and future studies are discussed.
